ABSTRACT:
Rapid industrialization and urbanization causes huge environmental damage. Pollution of aquatic environment is one of them. Heavy metals are one of the most noticeable contaminants in water, and they typically enter the environment via the discharge of industrial effluent. Since these metals are soluble in water, they can be easily absorbed by living organisms. Even minute quantities of heavy metals in the body can have devastating effects. For this reason, it is crucial to purify water by removing metals. This article defines the adsorption capacity, mechanism, factors affecting the adsorption process, and isothermal, kinetic, and thermodynamic characteristics of activated carbon and biochar generated from banana leaves, stalks, and stems for heavy metals (copper, lead, and cadmium).
